'Violet' - cocoa, silky soap (on a stick, down the stick)

Here it is- the notorious 'Voilet' soap and violet fragrance!
This soap should have been swirled with several shades of purple, with a hint of black and all that in white base. But, it's not meant to be.
I couldn't believe how quick it became (almost rock) hard, you could cut it with a knife.
I'm sorry for not picturing the process, now I realize that I should have taken some. I never take photos while working and especially not if something goes wrong. I'm so occupied with salvaging what can be salvaged, that I don't even think of grabbing the phone or camera. I also, never take my gloves off, so it would be almost impossible to take photos and not to 'soap' camera.
Well, what did I do?

This fragrance is gorgeous, spring floral scent, so feminine and flirty that rebatching was out of question. I didn't want to risk fragrance evaporate, or even worse, turnes into some terribly modified scent.

So, I decided to go on and to try to place it in the mould. It took me time and strenght  (for banging against my counter), but I finally overpowered it. I tried to add my coloured portions, which were nice and fluid, because they were not fragranced, but it was difficult to move hard batter.

Next, I was staring at it and waiting to see it gel.
And it started. So fast. Oh, dear, how hot it was!
I stood by it, touching the mold and when I was sure it became soft inside, I decided to make swirls, in order to incorporate coloured portions and to help air goes out.
I was praying for this baby, not to be pretty, but not to be 'cheesy'.
The top was fugly! I couldn't leave it that way, rough and bumpy with muddy colours.
So, you can see on the picture above what I did.
It is purple pearlescent mica in oil and the golden sugar pearls and glitter.
So, what do you all think?
Any suggestions of doing better with this misbehaving baby?
I wish you beautiful weekend!

  1. You managed remarkably well faced with a soap on a stick. I would never have thought to make swirls while the soap goes through the gel phase, but that's really quick thinking of you. And the mica paint on top is a great way to hide the rough and bumpy surface. I can only imagine how pretty this soap would have looked if only it behaved, but considering everything, it came out well. It has a marbled look and surprisingly, there are no holes.
I've noticed that only a few like florals. Generally I am not into straight florals, but I am beginning to have a better appreciation for it, especially when mixed with other scents.
I also don't take photos when I am making soap because there's usually not much time to do so. I discount my water so I have to work quickly.

    1. Despair brings new ideas, lol!
I also don't like straight notes, neither floral, nor fruity,I always find them a little boring. I think that this viola fragrance is actually a bland, but no matter what, it's still beautiful.
Gel helped with holes, it was thick, but fluid and I kicked its butt very well, :-)

    1. I would have preferred if it had been as envisioned, but I'm fine with it, as long as it smells divine and look decent.
      Thanks,Roxana!

  4. I think they look beautiful, reminds me of misty summer nights! :) It's difficult to take photos at the same time you are soaping, there should be another person for that. I'm almost always soaping by myself, so first thing in my mind is not to take photos...
I've never noticed that rebatching would turns scents bad, I only put some more that same scent before molding soap again.

    1. Yes, you're right! It could have been called 'Misty Nights', indeed! Thanks, Signe, I'll remember this name with my next floral mishap, lol! Thank you!
I don't know why, but the scents always change while rebatching. I think they never can reach their flash point, but something what changes the fragrance, occurs during the process. I usually don't like it afterwards. And additionally, this soap would have looked blah, with all these purples, it would have been probably grayish .
And who likes to see gray violas?

  5. I could never take photos while soaping, i find it too difficult and I often, I don't have enough light, but I like to see it at others.
Your soap looks nice, Maja, even it was a different experience while making it...and I adore it for containing silk. The top looks luxurious and because of the fragrance and it's marbled look, it makes a lovely spring soap!

    1. Yes, it was quite different experience, lol.
It would be great if I could take some photos, especially when I have 'issues' to share!
Have you tried silk in soap yet? Can't wait to see how you will like it!

  6. I would do only one color next time and top it with glitter! Or some MP embeds.

    1. I really hope it won't be next time, :-), but if it does happen, we'll see where it will lead to. It already looks shiny, with all that purple shimmer and gold sugar glitter.

  7. You did a great job salvaging the soap, Maja! You probably remember the time I got soap-on-a-stick. The soap got rock-hard in the pot but I managed to mash it up with my whisk and get it into the mold. It wasn't pretty, but the soap was usable. You got some pretty swirly colors in there despite the soap seizing. Good job!

    1. Of course I remember, Jenny, I mentioned you in my previous post.
I think this time i couldn't do any better, but still sorrow for the swirls I planned for this one. Thanks, Jenny

  8. Lately, I've been getting like 10 spam comments a day and luckily this engine is smart enough to put the right where they belong. However, I find them very annoying, so I turned the word verification on. As soon as they stop harrasing me, I'll put it down again. Sorry guys and thanks for understanding

Bravo!

  10. Very innovative! I would not touch soap that is gelling. I thought that it would be to hot. And I too think it looks like marble. If you had not told us about soap on a stick, I for sure would have asked you how to make this beautiful pattern. The gold balls makes the soap very classy.

    1. Yes, it was hot. But, not unmanageable. With the gloves on and a spoon, you really can defeat it! Thanks for your lovely words,Marika, especially for 'not noticing' unusual, twisted swirl.

  11. While reading your post, I had this image in my mind of you wrestling with this blob of soap. Sorry, not to make light of your dilemma, but I did smile at the thought.

I'm not sure how you'd photograph and soap at the same time, but then again I don't walk and chew gum simultaneously either. I think you did an amazing job of hiding whatever flaws you felt there were, I love the pearlescent top and the gold pearls are so elegant. It's beautiful Maja.

    1. Surprisingly, I was calm! Pissed off, but calm. As I realized my swirling plan fell through, I took a good look at it and tried to think cold minded what next to do. And actually, I had time to shoot it once, twice, but my mind was occupied with the misbehaving soap mass in the pot. And, as mentioned before, my gloves are never clean, :-) . One woman show is sometimes hard to pull off!
Thanks,Monica I really appreciate your words.

  12. It turned out gorgeous considering how much trouble it gave you...great salvage!!! Have I read somewhere that adding floral FOs directly to the oils beforehand helps...or am I making that up?! lol
Okay - I just did a quick search and found this, maybe something in this link will help? http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/soapglossary/a/SoapSeize.htm

    1. Thanks Cee for reminding me. This was one of the first lessons I have learnt, but first come, first gone, haha. I see now that my 'waiting for gel' method is mentioned in the article. However, I know some soap makers dilute their f.o.-s in the oil, before adding l/w solution, but for some reason, I have never tried this. Somehow, I don't believe f.o. would behave differently. I would change my mind only in case someone tested the same seizing f.o. using this method of incorporation, and regular one, when f.o. is added to soap batter. You see, that just has brought a new idea- why wouldn't I test this same f.o. this way? Hmmmm, thanks Cee!
