World Soap Challenges- Week Two!

It's almost unbelievable how many soapmakers has signed up for this challenges and I'm so delighted to be part of them. This second week task has been quite demanding- of skills, working time, utensils and afterwards, cleaning time, ggggrrrrrrhhh...
I don't mean to sound rude, nor to offend anyone, but first time I saw this technique, I wasn't that impressed. I suppose the layers with two contrasting colours aren't my style. Later, I saw some beautiful creations done by this technique, but I didn't try it until now.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this week soaps, I'm sure I will completely change my mind about so called 'Elemental Swirl'.
I watched the soapmaking video Amy had uploaded on her page, I bet her soap will be amazing. If you still haven't seen it (which I honestly doubt), here's the link.
Ok, my turn now. This is my version of 'Elemental' soap.

This soap has nothing to do with 'elemenatal', it doesn't represent neither of four elements. I wanted layers which don't stay opposite each other on the colour wheel, yet I thought I shoud keep the idea of one warm and one cold colour pattern.
I opted for purple/blue for one layer and varieties of pink for another. The pecil line between them is acivated charcoal.

So, three colours used for the bottom layer were: purple (purple oxid), blue (blue oxid) and black (pigment dispersion) and for the upper: pink I (ulramarine rose+TD), pink II (ultramarine rose+ pink FD&C), pink III (red pigment dispersion + TD)

I did ITP swirl regularly, but the colours just wouldn't disperse evenly through the mould, so you can see some parts of the soap (in the corners) are less swirled.
When I unmould it, I realized I didn't like it all all. I wish I had made the pink part lighter than I did, it would have suited better to the purple one.

I didn't want to stylize top, in order to let the colours stay distinctive, as I knew they would all blend in the soap. They still can be distinguished in the soap, but I like the tops anyway. I could have saved less of colours for them, though. Oh, 'could have, 'should have'.... the heck, I'm stopping here....

For the end, I'm gonna tell just that if Amy hadn't organized this challenges, I possiblly wouldn't have tried this technique, at laest not soon. But hey, that's the challenge about, isn't it!
I can't wait to see what you all will come up with!

Take care & see you next week!

  2. I like the peachy colored soap. I agree with you, I would have never tried this technique by myself. It is too mixed and "messy" for me.

Yes, the technique is quite demanding, you have to be focused and work fast, but the worst part comes at the end, when you're done- cleaning&washing!

  5. I planned so long to try this technique but still did not try it. I can imagine how demanding it is especially if the batch is not so big and you have to take care about perfect color dissolving, line between layers - definitely challenging! You really did it grate, I am most attracted by this gorgeous top of your soaps!

  14. I agree with you that I really didn't like how the elemental swirl looked enough to bother with it but after I made mine for the challenge, the first person who saw it said, "Oooh! How beautiful is that?!" Sooo, maybe I will have to make it again. Like you, I think the clean up is the worst!

    1. It happens to me,as well. People seem to like what I consider my average soap (this one I put in that group). You never know how people will respond, sometimes it's completely unpredictable. But, that's fun and I'm sooooo glad someone will like my soap more than me,lol!
      Thanks,Carol!
