Hello everyone!
When I read about soap challenges Amy was about to organize, I immediately knew I would be IN!
It's so interesting to see others' works on the same theme.
I've already visited her page (what you can do,as well) and seen so many great soap artists 'in action'.
I've tried this techinque before and I hoped for best. I decided to soap with no butters added, but in the first one I included avocado and sweet almond oil, along with 'great four of mine' (olive, coconut, castor, plam) and in the second sweet almond and sunflower oil.
I'm gonna say that I'm a real Murphy's friend, where he goes, there I am! Otherwise, I would have been able to make something like this.
First, I couldn't make to soap the whole week, then when I finally found a few perfect hours on Thursday night. I opted for essential oils (lavender and anise), what should have reduced a risk of premature setting up. The colours I wanted to achieve were not what I actually got. So, mix little bit of one here, little bit of other there,....and so on, until my batter started to thicken more and more. What I got is here:
I don't think it's something wrong with this soap, on the contrary, I find it pretty, but just not what I was going for.
Ok,that was on Thursday, I still had one day to give it another shut.
This time I used the fragrance oil I knew it would behave (a masculline, pino type fragrance) and pre-mixed the colours that I thought it would match my desirable colours. But, Murphy is with me again! My soap batter was setting up on me! WHAT?? I didn't use butters, but I had new palm oil (with higher melting point + lower soaping temperature), included in my recipe, so I suppose, it's the one to blame. So, I didn't have a chance to pour faux funnel, so I poured the soap lengthwise. Actually, I think the result is much more tiger-like than expected. First round went fine, the others, up to the end were scooped with a spoon.
What do you think?
If you're wondering if these colours were mine preferable ones, well, they are not. This red should have been purple. It seems I should give it the third try, just to take some break of stripes.
Here are some more pictures and thank you all for reading!
And yes, thank you Amy for organizing this world wide soap gathering, it is so fun! I'm really pround to be among the greatest soap artists in the world!
I'm really looking forward to making new 'soapy friends' via these challenges!
Have you all a wonderful Easter Sunday!

Actually, I think Murphy is a pretty good friend to you! :) They're both beautiful! And if you hadn't said that you were aiming for other colors, no one would have ever known. They look great.
ReplyDeleteHi,hi, I better like Murphy didn't visit me!
DeleteThanks, Amy!
VERY NICE Maja! I think my favorite is the pink, blue and green...but I really love them both! Great job!
ReplyDeleteDoes it look green? In fact it's grey, but should have been black, cos I used activated charcoal. It obviously wasn't enough!
DeleteThanks, Roxana!
Beautiful soaps! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy for stopping by and thanks for organizing this massive soap manifestation!
DeleteBoth are great, but my favorite is the pink, blue one.
ReplyDeleteThanks talkeenagirl! The first soap is fine, but the second one is maybe more tiger-like!
DeleteThanks for commenting!
They are beautiful Maja! It does not look at all like you had any problems with your soaps. And I actually like the combo of orange and blue.
ReplyDeleteThaks,Marika. Yes, it looks nice, but gos knows how nervous i got when the soap batter started to thicken. They both were not big batches, otherwise I might have not been able to pour all way to the end!
DeleteThey are beautiful, Maja! The 2nd one is my favorite with green and yellow, but I also like the 1st one and its essential oils combination is just great.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures, Diva :)
I'm puzzled now with my photos. Does it really look green-yellow. Oh, gosh, it is redish, purple (purple ultramarin) and grey (again, it should have been black)! I blended lavender, like 50% more than anise and after cutting, I lavender was dominating. Today, I smell more anise than lavender. I wonder how it will develop thru the cure period!?
DeleteThanks dear!

ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you and your family Maja! I agree with DH, Murphy is your friend :) These are both beautiful, I love how the stripes are slightly different from each one, and the colors are so rich...amazing job!
DeleteThanks, dear Cee! For your nice words and for your wishes. In fact, we are Orthodox Christians in this part of the world, and this year out Easter is on 6th of May. This is the first year I can remeber that there is such a time gap between two of Christian Easters!
DeleteBoth of these soaps are lovely and well done, great technique! We each have color preferences and mine is the one with the pink!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, welcome to my little blog, I really appreciate it!
DeleteI think both soaps came out great - your tiger stripes are perfect! My favorite is the pink. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks so much! It seems I didn't have to put myself at additional trial, many of you like the first one better!
DeleteI think your "Murphy" soaps turned out really well! I like the blue/pink the best.
ReplyDeleteI truly believed that nobody would read my long post! Thanks for staying with me till the end of it and thanks for your comment! Hopefully, we'll see more of you on your new blog! Good luck,Cris!
DeleteIt seems that you had very interesting soaping time :) Maybe those soaps are not what you expected but they are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Goca, interesting and nervous, hi,hi! You know what I mean, me, Murphy and two naughty soaps!
DeleteAt the end, I was happy with all of them! Thanks dear!
I think they are both great and love the colors-well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol, I really appreciate it! Welcome to my blog!
DeleteBoth soaps are gorgeous, Maja! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny for your nice words!
DeleteThank you all, people, it's so encouraging to receive such compliments from people who know soap!
